The Ladybug Garden Club with help from Karen Depew, a GCMGA member and MGEV, applied for a grant to create a butterfly garden, an herb garden as well as various plantings along the trail in Lilburn. They added plant tags to the shrubbery for identification and education as well as sowing a beautiful wildflower area. They have completed their project. Master Gardeners stay active with Gwinnett projects

The Gwinnett County Master Gardeners Association (GCMGA), established in September of 1993 as an educational, nonprofit, adult volunteer group, promotes the dissemination of university based research information to foster beautiful gardens and a healthy environment. Members consist of certified Master Gardeners who fund and participate in a wide variety of community projects, and contribute many volunteer hours to educate Gwinnett County residents about horticultural, gardening, and landscaping techniques. Most recently the group awarded a $500 grant for 110 plant markers to be placed at Vines Park. Other parks that have benefited from their efforts include: Bethesda Park Senior Center, George Pierce Park, Little Mulberry Park, McDaniel Farm Park, Pinckneyville Park, and Tribble Mill Park. Issued by Jessica Miller, Publicity Chair Gwinnett citizens and visitors will be enjoying the volunteer efforts of Gwinnett County Master Gardeners in several landscape projects thanks to the Gwinnett County Master Gardeners Association. The Association recently awarded eleven grants for horticultural projects that will beautify and improve the ecosystem within the County while providing educational opportunities in effective horticultural practices. Recipients of the grants include Lanier Community Garden, “Children’s Garden,” Buford; Lilburn Community Garden; Pinckneyville Middle School “Edible Garden;” Shiloh High School “Memory Garden,” Snellville; Sycamore Elementary School “Butterfly Garden;”Camp Creek Greenway Trail Garden, Phase II, Lilburn; Kistner Nature Center, Snellville; McDaniel Farm County Park, Duluth; Snellville Community Garden; Vines County Park, Loganville; and Norcross Community Garden.
