In March, member Shirley Bohm is shown receiving one of two ‘Silver Star’ awards presented by the Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation department for her Volunteer Service in 2014 at Vines Gardens Park in Loganville. This was a complete surprise to her. She had logged 90 ½ volunteer hours there last year and is also the Master Gardener Project Coordinator for the park with an excellent crew of Gwinnett Master Gardeners who meet every Tuesday to help out at the Park. Shirley also implemented the quarterly public class sessions last year which some were offered as a hands-on demonstration where the public were invited to participate. In the audience at the ‘2014 Volunteer Appreciation Reception was Tina Fleming, the Parks Division Director and Phil Hoskins who is the new Deputy County Administrator. Congratulations Shirley – an award well deserved!!! Related Images:

Gwinnett Farmers Markets
This summer, many of our members have volunteered bi-weekly at the local Farmers Markets in Snellville, Grayson, Lawrenceville, Suwannee, Norcross and Lilburn manning the Ask-a-Master-Gardener tents. It’s been a fun time meeting new folks, answering questions, and of course, getting the opportunity to see and buy local produce. Kathy Parent snapped this picture last Saturday (August 9, 2014) at Lawrenceville of (L-R), Betsy Jagels, Freda Steward, Sonia Freidus and Lawrenceville Mayor, Judy Jordan Johnson. Related Images:
