On July 9 , 2014 several energetic Gwinnett County Master Gardeners built a wooden arbor at the Pinckneyville Community Center Garden. The garden is one of the Gwinnett County Master Gardeners Extension Volunteers project. Under the guidance of Jane Burke, who designed the garden and the arbor, members used a post hole digger, mixed and poured cement, cut lattice, then inserted lags and assembled the arbor. Those who helped gained experience and were given plans of the design. Please go by the Pinckneyville Community Center and see the finished project. Winnie White, Jane Burke, Latha Yatabe and Joyce Teel. Lou Young carefully checks the level of the arbor post. Photos were taken by Winnie White, a master gardener and one the volunteers. Shiloh Elementary School Project
The Shiloh Elementary School Project – “Granny’s Garden” – was started on April 22, 2014 with the planting of the garden and was finished on Mary 15. Money was given for plants by the local PTA. Labor was provided by 3rd and 4th grade girls, under the guidance of teacher, Mary Johnson, and GCMGA Master Gardener Jackie Kujawa. It was educational for the girls as to how to plant, water and take care of a flower garden. It was a good experience for all. Related Images:
Vines Volunteers
An active group of GCMGA members work each Tuesday at Vines under the coordination of Shirley Bohm. Each area of the park is tackled on a rotating basis and these volunteers really makes the park beautiful. This group has taken things a step further and worked with Peggy Moss and Gwinnett County Parks and Rec to host a quarterly event open to the public. The next class will be held on May 6th, 2014 and will be on pruning azaleas. Related Images:
