The Gwinnett County Master Gardeners Association had the opportunity to partner with Whole Foods Market in providing informational tables on healthy eating and horticulture in the State Bridge Road store on January 16. For participation in this event, Whole Foods Market has provided a donation to support GCMGA project grants. To make this event a success, 27 members contributed their time and expertise to educated the community in the importance of growing healthy foods and promoting a healthy environment. Special recognition goes to Rosalie Tubre for coordinating this event with Whole Foods Market. The GCMGA will continue to provide monthly “Ask a Master Gardener” events at Whole Foods Market each month. These events provide an opportunity for MG Extension Service volunteer hours and the potential for other partnerships with Whole Foods. Related Images:
2013 Field Trips Begin at the Johns Creek Environmental Campus
Our first 2013 GCMGA field trip was a held on January 23rd with a visit to the Johns Creek Environmental Campus (JCEC) located on the borders of Gwinnett, DeKalb and Fulton Counties adjacent to the Chattahoochee River. The field trip included members from all three county Master Gardener Associations. Over 1,000 new trees and shrubs, featuring plants native to our area, blend the facility into the public open areas. The JCEC is unique in that it combines aesthetic beauty with state-of-the-art technology to create a facility that performs a vital role while being a good neighbor. The landscape includes a series of walking trails, a pond and stream system complete with a covered bridge, and specially designed storm water bio retention facilities that help clean storm water runoff. 2013 GRANTS
The Gwinnett County Master Gardener Association (GCMGA) will provide $5,000 in Grants in 2013 to GCMGA members for projects to support our mission to serve as stewards of the environment and to educate the public about horticultural practices that foster both beautiful gardens and a healthy environment.
