Walter Reeves will be broadcasting live from the 14 Annual Georgia Home & Garden Show Stage on Saturday, February 12th from 6 am – 10 am at the Gwinnett Civic Center. We will have room for 45 people to come and sit in the audience while Walter does his show. He lets people interact with him and bring questions/dying plants and such with them. This is an invitation to 45 Master Gardeners to see Walter. You will then have free admission to the show too once it opens up at 10 am. Since space is limited, this offer is on a first come, first served basis. Gardeners who don’t keep bees? Seems odd to me. It’s like being a gardener who doesn’t compost, peanut butter without jelly, Laurel without Hardy, …… You get the idea. I am often asked: How much trouble is it to keep honey bees? Not much trouble at all I say. But just like being a good owner of any garden or livestock, we want to be the best steward we can of the life entrusted to our care. “Being a good beekeeper starts with having good stock.” If you start off with bad bees, you will have a lot of extra trouble. January 2011 Meeting – Douglas Ruhren on Camellias
Monday, January 17, 6:30p. The year’s first meeting was well attended and received. Seventy-five members, friends and guests attended Gwinnett Master Gardeners’ (GMG) kickoff meeting for 2011. Newly installed officers Anne Heath (president) and Hilary Wilson (VP) were smooth and seamless in handling the business of GMG. Alice Verner and her new hospitality committee handled the “soup and sandwiches” theme with aplomb. Programming. There was a special recognition at the front end of the program. This was an award for work on the outdoor classroom at the Monarch School on Main Street in Duluth. Dr.Barbara Martin, Monarch principal, attended the meeting long enough to present the GMGs a plaque. Shannon Pable has designed and organized the garden area at Monarch, and supervises its ongoing maintenance. She accepted the award on behalf of “Gwinnett Master Gardeners” involved in this labor of love over the past several years.
