The Gwinnett County Master Gardeners Association (GCMGA), established in September of 1993 as an educational, nonprofit, adult volunteer group, promotes the dissemination of university based research information to foster beautiful gardens and a healthy environment. Members consist of certified Master Gardeners who fund and participate in a wide variety of community projects, and contribute many volunteer hours to educate Gwinnett County residents about horticultural, gardening, and landscaping techniques. Most recently the group awarded a $500 grant for 110 plant markers to be placed at Vines Park.
Other parks that have benefited from their efforts include: Bethesda Park Senior Center, George Pierce Park, Little Mulberry Park, McDaniel Farm Park, Pinckneyville Park, and Tribble Mill Park.
Since 1999, GCMGA Volunteers have partnered with Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation (GCPR) in donating thousands of man hours working on improving and enhancing the park experience, participated in major events, taught classes, and cared for demonstration gardens. They hold outdoor classrooms, revitalized wildlife areas, regeneration and establishment of vegetable and flower gardens, and ongoing teachings about environment.
