On November 11, 2014, several members took the walking tour on the Atlanta Beltway. Master Gardener Lawrence Richardson, who is also a Trees Atlanta Docent, led the walk. The tour explored the Eastside Trail, focusing on the horticultural collections, spotlighting native trees, architectural interests, key historical stories, and much more. Everyone had a great time. February 2014 Monthly Meeting
We had to cancel the meeting for Monday, February 16th at Bethesda Senior Center due to inclement weather. We hope to be able to schedule Gary Peiffer at a future date. We will learn there is a native tree that will perform excellently in every corner of your property. When you plant a tree you are making a huge property investment. The right tree (or shrub), in the right place will anchor your home for 20 and perhaps 100 years. Gary Peiffer, the current DeKalb County Extension Agent with an extensive background in forestry practices and a certified arborist, will identify the good and the poor characteristics of some trees native to Georgia. He will make some recommendations and provide us with quite a few pointers on proper tree care. Related Images:
January 2015 Monthly Meeting
Did you know that Terrarium Gardening has been popular for nearly 200 years? Our Monday, January 19th meeting featured a wonderful terrarium presentation by Emily Robinson. In addition to sharing the history of terrarium gardening, she brought us good advice on selecting suitable containers and plant material and gave tips for how best to create and maintain a healthy eco-system in a new terrarium. Emily also did a hands-on demonstration by building a new terrarium and graciously answered numerous questions from our members. Enjoy a pictures from our meeting. Related Images:
