In March, member Shirley Bohm is shown receiving one of two ‘Silver Star’ awards presented by the Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation department for her Volunteer Service in 2014 at Vines Gardens Park in Loganville. This was a complete surprise to her. She had logged 90 ½ volunteer hours there last year and is also the Master Gardener Project Coordinator for the park with an excellent crew of Gwinnett Master Gardeners who meet every Tuesday to help out at the Park. Shirley also implemented the quarterly public class sessions last year which some were offered as a hands-on demonstration where the public were invited to participate. In the audience at the ‘2014 Volunteer Appreciation Reception was Tina Fleming, the Parks Division Director and Phil Hoskins who is the new Deputy County Administrator. Congratulations Shirley – an award well deserved!!!
